Energy Management

Head office energy usage and waste

Reducing the energy consumption of our head office and Bailey Leadership Academy has been a challenge.

Denton Hall is an 18th Century Grade 1-listed building, and so we started by introducing simple, low cost measures to reduce waste. Against our 2004/5 baseline we have reduced electricity consumption by 19 per cent, and we remain confident to improve on this.

In early 2002 we commissioned 22 solar thermal collectors to pre-heat domestic hot water. More recently, we have installed an intelligent building management system (IBMS) control system to further reduce energy consumption, by eliminating conflicts between heating and cooling systems, monitoring room temperatures and adjusting the heating to ensure optimal comfort.

Success at Denton Hall has now led to the company setting a target for the other 33 buildings occupied by NG Bailey in the UK to reduce their energy consumption by five per cent.

Success elsewhere across our group

Commercially viable, sustainable, technologies have also been installed elsewhere across our operation.

We've incorporated a variety of technologies into our properties, including solar thermal, building management systems and sun pipes at both our BREEAM 'Very Good' rated Reading Office and our Bailey Off-Site manufacturing plant.

These technologies have reduced the energy costs of these buildings as well as carbon emissions.

We have also installed nine Automated Metering and Targeting Systems which will monitor real time consumption of electricity and gas in nine of our largest buildings. Through analysis of this data, and by conducting energy audits, we aim to deliver an overall energy reduction of five per cent this year within these properties.
